My Story

The very first time I gave a thought to what we were eating was when I became a mother. From a vanilla scone with vanilla latte in breakfast to oats is a journey I attribute to my son. I had a sudden awakening to what we were eating, where the produce was coming from, safest cooking utensils, safe cleaning products, chemicals, pesticides, radon , water and the list goes on. I am sure many parents can relate to this.

About the same time, I started practicing Primary Care, I saw myself pondering over how an 80-year-old could come to see me living his best life playing golf or tennis and thriving in his retirement versus an 80-year-old who came in on a wheelchair brought in my family,   completely dependent on them for everything. The answer was not always socioeconomic status, but it was always lifestyle choices. The curiosity to learn more and my person struggles with weight led me to certify in Obesity Medicine and Lifestyle medicine. I learnt about prevention and reversal of chronic diseases by making better lifestyle choices.

Despite the education and knowledge, I still struggled to choose an oatmeal over a scone for breakfast, a black coffee/tea over latte/chai or fruit for dessert. I found it hard to break my own patterns. That led me to exploring behavior and patterns.

That’s when I stumbled upon Life coaching. It helped me become self-aware (which I always thought that I was but clearly not) so I decided to certify. The whole experience was transformative. I hate to say that I didn’t think highly of coaching industry because in my arrogance- knowledge, degrees, and titles were all we need. I am humbled by the wisdom and the world of self-exploration. I learnt that while evidence based content is critical for successful outcomes, behavior change is core to achieving it. Behavior change is not about telling someone what to do, it's about leaning in to your internal motivation and strengths. It's about recognizing our patterns and nurturing our bodies n soul. We do the "Work" that strengthens the daily healthy habits and slowly give up the unhealthy ones that do not serve us.
